Adopters Together is a peer supported campaigning initiative for adopters, and special guardians. We formed in August 2017, initially just for adopters. In thinking about the serious problems we face, as permanent families in the UK context (see Beyond the Adoption Order), it began to make sense to include special guardians, who face many similar issues. The decision to include them in our group and work together with them was taken at the end of October 2017.

Why we started

We parent and care for some of the UK’s most traumatised and vulnerable children and young people. Our aim is to promote better understanding of the needs of our children and families in order to effect positive change and safeguard permanence. We would like to be heard and to be part of the dialogue about change. In our group everyone is welcome, every voice counts and everyone’s story is important.

Our children are our future, and loving families are the key to theirs, so we hope that all those working with children will wish to listen to us and work together with us, to achieve positive change

Please send us an email if you wish to offer support, or would like to work together with us –

If you are an adoptive parent, or special guardian, and would like to join our campaigning group, please click here to complete a membership form. Now is a great time to join as we are in the process of setting up as a new voluntary organisation. We do need some help with our set up costs, some of which have already been incurred, and would be grateful for any donations through our just giving page
